Habitats & Communities – Our Need to Conserve Energy!
‘Consequences of Consumption’
Due: Tuesday, February 16, 2010
This project is broken down into several areas of research. Each group member must choose four areas to research individually for their Energy Source or Resource Community. The final project will be done with all group members and will consist of a poster board display of all the information gathered. You are limited to two pieces of poster board single sides. Information must be typed or neatly hand-written. Proper use of paragraphs, spelling, punctuation and grammar are expected.
NOTE: Do not read from the presentation boards! Please use cue cards to assist you.
Areas of Research for Each Group
1. Type of Resource / Energy and Community Location: Describe what type of resource/energy and where the energy / resource community is located. Include a map drawn and outlined by you.
2. Environment: Explain the climate and the vegetation of the area in which your community exists / existed (before and after).
3. Homes: Describe how and why the homes in the community were made.
4. Transportation: Outline the various modes of transportation for the community – note any changes which occurred and why.
5. Government: Describe the type of government and how the community was / is run.
6. Food: Include the types of food, its availability to the community (think about how isolated the community is.)
7. Tools / Machinery: Include how the tools / machinery were used, the resources/chemicals used to extract the resource or energy.
8. Family / Community Structure: Describe how the communities worked together or against each other. Why or why not?
9. Cultures: Include information on the cultures that harvested the resources / energy and the other cultures that lived around that community.
10. Recreation: Describe any games or activities that your community would have participated in.
11. Pictures / Drawings / Charts: include at least two of each in your project.
12. Effects to Modern Day: Describe at least three things that we must learn from that went wrong and how can we fix it for the future. What was done right so that we may make them better for the future? (Example, environment, habitats, human health, technologies, etc…)

The presentation rubric has been given to all students with a hard copy of these expectations listed above.
